Custer State Park, SD

I leave July 1st for Wyoming and am planning to stop for a day or two of backpacking/camping at Custer State Park in South Dakota. I am particularly interested in the French Creek Natural area as it appears to have some great hikes.

Has anyone been there? Can anyone give me any advice on French Creek or other locations in the park where I can hike/camp.

Any info or experiences greatly appreciated.

thanks,

jjtwister

Message me and I can help. You're in my backyard. I live 45 minutes from Custer and play in the Black Hills almost daily

DocSavage, could be great if you post information in this thread,
then others could discover it... ;-)

We are going to be there next week also, but are just camping at Sylvan Lake. Will be seeing the sights and doing some rock climbing and bike riding also. We drove through the French Creek area last year, but didn't do much hiking. Lots of buffalo and burros.

Re: Custer State Park, SD

We'll be in SD early next week, probably Tuesday 7/9 or Wednesday 7/10, but likely in the Badlands area. I'm following this thread, though, as we've thought about checking out Custer, too. We're driving back home to Pennsylvania.

Would love to check out your van, JJ! Looks good from the pics I've seen. We're in a white 98 Ford EB with big blue strip on the side and three bikes on the back. Honk if you see us.

We'll be in the same area, the same time. Just not in our SMB.
