I was out there too, from the 20th - 29th. Based on the first pic, did you just do Mengel Pass?

We ended up coming in from the East which makes the final climb to the pass more difficult, but I though about it, even started that way, but prior to the pass, there was another section that was a bit sketchy without a spotter and may have required some rock stacking, so I turned around rather than take a chance of any damage. Its much easier coming from the West side.

Plus it can change year to year. I did it at night without a spotter one year.

I just did that route in mid Feb, East to West for the third time. Mengal Pass looks tricky but I have done it it my F250 Supercab longbed twice and just took the van through back in Feb. It is an awesome adventure. We even added the Sperry Wash over by the Dumont Dunes and then dropped into Ibex Springs, Buckwheat Dunes, Ibex Dunes, Saratoga Springs before heading on down the Harry Wade Road and over to Warm Springs Canyon, Butte Valley and then Mengal. Took 4 days and explored every mine we could find. Great pics and a great adventure! Photos below are from the rarely visited Buckwheat Dunes in Death Valley. You can do a great hike around the back of them on the right and up to the top. My son took a skateboard deck and surfed them on the way down the face.

Great photos! Love the ‘earth’ tones too. I’m planning to be in Utah (by Hellbetty) March 2021. Which has more red tones than DV!

Lol I was supposed to cycle through DV a few years ago- admittedly a van trip looks more fun.

Ummm Eric don’t you need a van first? Unless you crossed over to jeeping it 😇
