Spent the weekend driving around NW Utah, NE Nevada and SC Idaho. Finally had a trip that didn't involve tow trucks and/or spending $3000 on repairs. The rig ran great and is a real treat to drive off road. Of course my buddy's Syncro Adventurewagen also did fine and he spent about a third as much as me.
Spent the first night at a favorite place called Rocky Pass in the Grouse Creek mountains in NW Utah. Beautiful place. The next day we visited Nancy Holt's Sun Tunnels sculpture near Lucin, UT. Filled up the Syncro in Montello, NV and headed to Grouse Creek, UT. They were having their annual Independence Day Rodeo. I was the only hippie there. Spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills--whoops: wrong memory. Spent the night in NE Nevada among the burned Junipers. Had to have a fire to fend off the no-see-um type creatures. Tried not to start a huge grass fire--succeeded. Went back into Utah via the Goose Creek Rd. Had a bath in Trout Creek--you do not want to see that.
Had a chocolate shake at the JB's in Burley, ID, then set off for the wonderful old abandoned university in Albion, ID. Neat place. Was watched by a fabulous owl and checked out his/her pellet when vomited. Headed south then east to Malta, ID, hung a right and spent some time at the remains of Strevell, ID.
Enjoy the pictures.

PS: I f'n love the SMB despite the problems I've had. I love hearing the turbo spool up. The security I feel when that bottomless torque pulls us up a steep trail. It's super comfy too.
