Will you be making an appearance in the U-Joint dunk tank?

Too far for us west coast people for an event that's smaller than the one closer in Mormon Lake. We'll probably send product out there though with Sportsmobile.

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

Put us down as we'll be there but we're 100% positive our interior won't be finished. The bright side is we're one of the "possibilities"!

Great meeting you today and have fun pulling those bumpers out of your car!

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

Reading that this is the first Expo East considering its geographic site it has the possibility to grow quite a bit. I'm guessing its maybe within a 10-12 drive of a huge population which isn't a bad jaunt for a two or three day weekend event.

Hope to see how this all turns out.

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

I've been following a couple threads on this on Expo and the unofficial word at this point is that there is plenty of space for day pass users to camp. Supposedly this place is huge. The pics look like it for sure. I'm planning on day passing only but really want to camp onsite and meet-n-greet with like minded van addicts. For those of you who want some eye candy, here's the site for the Taylor Ranch. Check out the gallery.

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

Thanks for sharing... we haven't had the chance to check out the venue. This will be our first event like this so it'll be fun. We attended the Florida rv super show and rally once when we had the Pleasure-way and that was not our thing. We went because we were thinking of changing rigs but boy was the sky blocked out by all of the Class As and Fifth wheels. Our favorite was all of the "not for hire" signs on the medium duty trucks. We don't recall SMB being there, but there was this awesome tricked out F250 with a heavily customized truck camper. We talked with the owner for a long time. Like these vans, he was way overweight but he was traveling all over the US and having a blast. He was pod casting from the truck camper about each location he was in... I need to find his card.

My favorite is the lake shot with the horses and cows grazing on the other side. I assume there was about to be a wedding or something.

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC **UPDATE FOR CAMPING!**

Copied from an update ScBrian sent me. Thanks Brian! Looks like you DO need to register to camp as a day pass user, which is what I will be doing.

OVERLAND EXPO EAST FAQ (MORE DETAILS WILL BE ADDED EACH WEEK)

– CAMPING & ACCOMMODATIONS

What are my options for hotels?
Because of its geographical location on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville and the surrounding region has hundreds of hotels. But don't delay your reservations; October is prime "leaf" season for fall, so book early. They will sell out. Plenty of options here: http://www.exploreasheville.com/2014overlandexpoeast/

What is the main campground like?
HILLS: At Taylor Ranch there will be designated areas for camping in grassy, rolling fields either among or just outside the hardwood forest area. NOTE: hills! Plan on bringing good leveling blocks for your rigs just in case. See below about SIZE RESTRICTIONS for vehicles (no large RVs).

DRY CAMPING: There are NO hookups for electricity or water at this venue. We provide porta-toilets and camp-style remote showers in privacy cabanas. There will be a central tank of potable water for filling up, but we ask that people be very conservative (so there is enough for all) and that you are self-sufficient (bring your own water containers / food / cooking gear, etc.).

TREES: All trees are protected: no wood cutting, nailing or attaching anything to trees, or disturbing the forests. This is a private working farm. Please respect their resources.

FIRES: There will be several designated fire pits run by Taylor Ranch, but otherwise no personal campfires due to the proximity of other farms and houses and the fire danger.

FACILITIES & AMENITIES: There will be portable bathrooms and showers, water fillup stations, and trash facilities, but we are recommending you treat this like a true overlanding trip: be self-sufficient or plan to travel to a nearby town (minutes away) for food, water, etc.

CAMPING RESERVATIONS for Overland Experience attendees and exhibitors is by reservation: you must let us know if you are camping. (RSVPs are submitted at time of registration–no need to contact us unless that changes.) NOTE THE SIZE RESTRICTIONS BELOW. Day pass attendees will also need to reserve camping space when you purchase your advance day pass tickets online (starting August). At-gate day pass attendees will not be able to camp. We will fill up.

RVs: Sorry, but Class-A motorhomes / very large RVs are NOT PERMITTED. Due to the nature of the terrain, there is not an appropriate space for any motorhomes with limited ground clearance. We will not have any way to recover stuck RVs. Check out your options for RV parks nearby here (note: book early, it's going to be fall "leaf" season): http://www.campgroundreviews.com/regions/No ... tcher.html

VEHICLES & TRAILERS: Camping on-site at Taylor Ranch will be limited to overland rigs: trucks, vehicles with four-wheel-drive, trailers (only if pulled by four-wheel-drive truck), and purpose-built larger rigs that have four-wheel-drive. NOTE: 12-foot height limit due to trees. If you are bringing a trailer, you must be pulling it with a vehicle that has 4WD. Please make sure your trailer has adequate ground clearance. (Reminder: there are no hookups in this venue.) Quiet generators are allowed but must be turned off by 10 pm.
