Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

I'm thinking of coming for a day and camping, but my van is 2WD. Reading the Vehicles regs above, I'm not sure a 2WD van is allowed. How do you all understand the text?

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

It is kind of vague. It makes clear that any trailers must be pulled by 4WD trucks, but above that it just says 'trucks'. I would email them and ask. The place doesn't look that bad, it's just grassy fields, but I'm sure a lot of their concern is people getting stuck and making a mess if the ground is wet or it rains.

I just emailed Johnathan Hanson about the 2wd question. I also sent him a link to this thread.

Got a response back from Roseann Hanson tonight, "A 2wd Sportsmobile should be okay if you are cautious. Don't venture far off the mowed roads and you should be fine. We will add a bit to the website about high clearance 2wd being okay."

Should clear up some of the recent questions.

Great, thanks for finding the answer for us all!

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

We bought a roll of Butyl tape, the wide variety used for redoing the penthouse bolts. If anyone attending would like some just let us know. It's a rather large roll. We'll be re-doing our bolts tonight and tomorrow so we'll have an idea of how much it takes. We'll save a little for having on hand while we travel around but the rest will need to find new homes.

We installed two external 12v receptacles and used some of the butyl to seal them. An experiment of sorts. Will report back how that works out.

Take some photos if you can and post up your experience! This is on my to-do list. (I know there is an existing thread, but always good to have more added to the knowledge base.)

Where did you get the tape?

Re: Expo East 2014 Asheville NC

Will do. We have read jage's write-up (viewtopic.php?p=41598#p41598) about ten times and ordered the tape from McMaster-Carr. Stuff isn't cheap but we're under a deadline to get certain things done before the van goes to the shop. Our steps will be a little different since we won't be installing the caps over the bolts as we'll be having the entire top sprayed.

The existing set-up rallypamam did is holding up well, no leaks at all. We're only doing this to re-cover the bumpers and to remove an unused solar track mount. We also figured brand new hardware then covered over should keep for our entire trip, hopefully.

I know we'll blog about it but I WILL get to our build page and update it at some point, probably after we've dropped the van off.
