Glacier np

I am heading out to Montana for July and August. After reading the news about Glacier and how crowded it will be this summer I decided NOT to go there.

Instead I am going to the Bob Marshall Wilderness specifically The lower or southern end of Hungry Horse Reservoir to camp and fish the South fork of Flathead River as well as the Spotted Bear River.

Has anyone been out in this area fishing and camping? Any details or pertinent
information you can share?
Thanks,
jjtwister

Beautiful area. Just behave appropriately with regard to bears. It is a major grizzly bear area. Be very serious about food storage, garbage management, food smells around camp, make plenty noise so bears can get out your way, carry and know how to use bear spray.

Bob Marshall Wilderness

Thanks for the info...I always carry bear spray plus a Ruger 357 mag that I hope I never to use. Also have a great bear bag that I store food in and hang from a tree. So, I do observe all safety protocols.

Good to hear.
Note that bear spray is more effective than a firearm in case of a bear charge, and it keeps the bear alive.

Looks nice. As for Glacier or any NP this summer, by August things usually calm down. Once school is back in the crowds diminish pretty quickly. We had planned for Glacier ourselves this summer but our travel plans have been put off until probably September so we aren't worried much about crowds.

Post some pics of your trip!

Things have been getting busier and busier in glacier, as well as many other national parks. There will be crowds in August. Going to the sun rd now has permit system. Consider shuttle van.

I saw that. I think other than the necessity of getting from one side to the other my Going to the Sun Rd. for fun days are probably over.

Marcel, any idea when it usually gets it's first snow enough to close it?

Seasonal closure is usually 3rd weekend of October.
But there can be temporary closures earlier if there is snow.

Oh yes, I remember that fondly. It's pretty much constant there.
