We really liked Apgar Village and Fish Creek Campground. Great ranger programs at the campground as well. Many Glacier is a beautiful area as well. I wish we had more time to explore around the east side.
Thanks for the tips! We played in Apgar Village the other day. Paddled the kayak on the south end of McDonald Lake. Was gorgeous to watch the sun setting over the mountains. (And if Brent from haywoodphotomaccom were there, we'd have good pictures....) The hike to Avalanche Lake was busy but beautiful. The creek rocks are a really unusual shade of sienna red. The Avalanche fire is still smoldering. We could see plumes of smoke rolling down the hill. Look forward to checking out the remote northwest corner of the park in a bit.
So, we got to explore the western end of the Going to the Sun Road, up to Avalanche Lake. The middle section is closed for construction. Backpacking in the North Fork was gorgeous! Pictures will be up on the blog soon. Now we just need Brent to take some professional pictures. The place is just too beautiful to do justice with an amateur camera.
