Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12
No Mac, it was 0741 where you were. And I guess that would be 2241Z.
About the time I spent a couple years in the Philipines.

Hijacked! No problem. I like to relive those days from time to time. I don't have any great pictures. Cameras were forbidden where I was. And I can't tell you any good stories or ...well...you kow, I'd have to kill you.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12
Thanks Charlie56. I did the same Google search. That name doesn't sound familiar; but I am getting old. I could have sworn the guy we went through was in Phoenix, but the Rockwell project (not North American Aviation, unless they were a subsidiary of Rockwell) was in Anaheim, California. So my memory is really bad. If Larry is the guy I talked to, sadly he has passed away so I can't thank him for what he did for me and so many others.

But I can thank you Mac. I had friends that used the service. Thanks.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12
UPDATE...This trip is still on the table. I will arrive in the vacinity of Balarat no later than the morning of 3/31/12. The plan is to head into Goler Wash that morning and explore the canyon with the intention of ending Sat. aft. east of Mengel Pass at a suitable camp spot. Some folks have indicated they would meet at the Geologists cabin Sat. evening. From there the intention is to move east and north with stops at yet to be soldified points on the Westside road and eventually getting to The Racetrack during the first week of April. Pretty loose plan at this point and I am flexible. So far Tapateo is confirmed.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12
Chris:
Do you know how long you plan to be in Death Valley? Because of my church obligations I will not be able to be at the meet-up on Sunday, April 1st. I might be able to join you on Monday if you will be there for a couple of days longer. Otherwise I will have to pass on this one. Sorry!
Mac
P.S.: Mike and I might meet up at DV before the 31st. Or I could just come out on Monday, April 2nd.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12
Chris,
I'm planning on being there. At least at the Geologist's Cabin. I'm not sure I want to pull my trailer over Mengel Pass. I've been there before and would have to talk to someone who scouted the trail before I head up there. And, I really want to go west through Striped Butte Valley. I'm glad to here some plan of going out to Racetrack. There is a little old campsite just past the Racetrack that can fit several vans, maybe 10-12. No facilities anymore. I did say 'old', as in used to be a campground.
See you there,
Mike
