In Durango, you wooda, coulda, had a place to stay but you chose Shitty Market instead. Go figure. Glad you had fun in some great places.

Got me inspired!
OMG thanks! I had a lovely visual mini-vacation viewing this post... Not bad for a monsoon Colorado high country trip!
You all must be hearty- i always get altitude headaches at some point when I travel to Colorado. But now I'm inspired to get to some new areas since I usually stick to Northern Col.
Wonderful birthday trip for your wife! Love the simplicity of your van, too

Dude, I just saw this. I don't think I've looked at this thread since I posted it. I'll buy you a beer next time in Durango, and thanks!

We were in the same area just after 4th of July on our CO BDR/CDT trip. It was crowded. You got better solitude, but we got better weather! Agree with you, I got some looks with the van atop the high passes.

Lol, yep, we threw that trip together knowing the crowds would be there, and they were. It's all we could squeeze in this summer. I plan to plan better next time.

That is a great area of CO, we rolled through in April/May, a bit less crowded than in the height of summer. Camp ground reservations have really become insane, cutthroat, and unless you’re on it when they open them up 6 months in advance, good luck! Many of the dispersed areas are hard to snag a spot in too. If you can swing the shoulder season, mainly we love getting out in the fall with cooler temps and when the aspens are doing their thing, it doesn’t last long enough. Would love to catch up next time you’re out this way, there’s enough of us in CO to make a decent meetup, I’m eyeing the CO BDR, I know Jeff would trek out here for that! ……[emoji3541]

I would definitely be game for a meetup. Basically, just say the word. Not only is this area of Colorado my favorite spot, it's also the most convenient for me, meaning the quickest way to get to the big mountains from the East. Unfortunately, this also applies to about 6 million other people, 5.5 mil of them from Texas.
