Re: I want Imogene
Funny, I went up to do some mountain biking and to do Imogene a few weeks ago. A semi rolled and dumped it's load on the road through Dolores canyon effectively shutting off Telluride for the day from that side. C-DOT were not on the ball moving the truck or even creating a space so traffic could flow, so we went back to Durango and did more riding. I plan on going back sometime later this fall, let me know if anyone else is interested.
I have walked it for the Imogene pass race and as I remember it, the worst, most technical part of the road is coming up to the crest of the pass from the Telluride side. Apparently most people run it that way rather than from Ouray. If my memory serves it seems it would be easier the other way but I'll ask around in town before we do it. I think the group in the movie did it from Ouray to Telluride. The camping up high is exposed and the views are amazing. I think the summit of Imogene pass road is at 12000 feet or so.

Re: I want Imogene
Ah Imogene ...
Truly one of my favorite trails. I think I did it for the first time in the 70's with my family (Before Telluride was "discovered" and the tour companies showed up). The scenery can't be beat.
These are from summer 2010. The trail isn't really technical, just a bit steep in places and a bit narrow in places with some really good drop offs to one side or the other.

Re: I want Imogene
Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself as I haven't taken delivery of my SMB yet, but I, too, want to drive Imogene. I've been to both Telluride and Ouray.
In the video, there appear to be some over-hanging rocks. My van will be pretty tall ... do you know the maximum height that will make it?
Thanks.

Re: I want Imogene
With the box on top, my van is pretty tall and I had no concerns. If you have one of the really tall fixed tops (aka, Bill Wilson), it may be a bit tight?

Re: I want Imogene
During the Sportsmobile rally in Silverton in 2006, a number of us did the trail beginning in Telluride. The only real issue was passing vehicles coming the other way. Most were tour groups with H2s. In some of those situations, a spotter was needed along with folding in the mirrors.
