also, just FYI, I didn't find Ophir Pass to be an easy fire road, much more technical than that. For a Jeep, easy. For a 10k van it had some interesting moments, which I would love to do again, now.

86: what part of Ophir did you find a little squirrelly? I've been over that pass in various stock 4x4 pickups and jeeps for years and assumed the SMB would be just fine - I go up there almost every year for wild flower photography, and am planning to check it out again in a couple weeks. Was it just narrow, or narrow and pucker-tilty?

It wasn't bad. In hindsight I think I was just nervous because my van was still screwing up. It actually stalled on the backside, and of course I attempted it only because I thought I had solved the problem. The Ophir (town) side has some deep ditches and rocky water crossings, and we did hit a lot of traffic. It's probably no worse anywhere than Last Dollar Rd.
