Jiminys Death Vally run 2011

Well Claudine and I had a few days off so we decided to make a run to Death Valley. Well we are back home and 832 miles more on the odometer.
We started on Thursday morning and went up the 395 with a copy of California trails desert region in hand.

Our first stop turn into the dirt was Saline Valley road so I decided to air down at this point.

After a few mile we start getting closer to Southpass.

So we stop and make the yellow snow and let all play

After a little play we start rolling on the snow. After we made to the hot springs we found out that people had been stuck for a week and unable to get out.

Goose was happy to get the moomoo alert

Well we stopped at the salt beds and checked out the area. I have done cables on ski lifts but how did they run that cable over?

Ok after shaking all the fillings out of my teeth we made it to the springs.

After setting up camp we had a house guest stop by.

Claudine call this a pair of asses.

well Did not soak to much as it was all guys and kinda strange.

On the way out we tried to do Lippincot but after walking it decided not to being a solo van without a good spotter.

So at this point we go back out Southpass and coming down the dirt road just pass the snow is a lexus???? How the heck. Well He will be staying tell the snow melts as I did not get stuck but it was a challenge getting back out.

We made it to Racetrack rd. and after 2.5 miles set up camp.

had to stop and look

The Racetrack is pretty cool.

Anyway we did the Castle tours and went by Bad Water

What a good weekend.

Thanks for the pictures. I was thinking of going to Saline Valley for the first time this week, but after seeing your pictures I think I will wait a couple of more weeks. I have a 4x2 with a locking differential, but I'm just not ready to test fate. I can't afford to be stuck in there for a week.

Coming back out the next day the snow was melting quick so in a few days it should be clear on the road. That is if we do not get another storm.

Great pics, thanks.

We spent a similar weekend out there in January.

Saline valley and the springs are one of my favorite places to relax.

Great post. Nice to see what an SMB can do. Just curious, everytime I'm there in
that kind of weather, there is a sign up saying the road is closed.
Did you just do it and pass the sign? I like that type of conditions! Cool!

Dave,
I did a lot of reading about road conditions ahead of my trip in Jan.

It appears that the "road closed" sign is more or less a permanent feature on saline valley road. Many claim the county leaves the sign up to reduce liability and deter the yahoos.

Every time I've been through, the sign has been out and I always smile as I drive on by....
