I would suggest an area about 30 minutes from southwest of Lake Tahoe. Gas in Minden Nevada is cheaper than in CA. We spent three months camping there last summer. Disbursed camping on USFS land is seemingly endless. The region has enough back country roads that range from wandering around trees and boulders looking at wildflowers for no particular reason, to taking on The Rubicon Trail.

There are great places to camp along the Blue Lakes road (starts in Hope Valley, CA). If the meetup is in late May or early June, there may be enough snow to ski on. Since this years precipitation is in the 200% range, white-water paddling and rafting should be as good as it gets. My first choice for camping are the campgrounds are located between Hope Valley and Blue Lakes.

This is on USFS land and disbursed camping is the norm. Scenery is spectacular and lots of water to fish in. If several vans show up 5 to 7 days before the meet-up, they can cordon off enough space for 20 to 30 vans.

I must agree that the area you're talking about is a fantastic spot to explore (I used to run a F.S. Fire Crew out of Woodfords, CA). However, be aware that the Forest Service requires recreational permits for gatherings of certain sizes when they take place outside of developed recreational sites. If this get-together were to get anywhere close to that type of attendance and be held in a dispersed camping area a permit would be required.

Updated information: For events with 75 or more attendees a permit would be required, otherwise should be good.

On a purely selfish note, Bend is a much closer drive for me...

2023 meet-up

I'm in, I'll keep an eye out for final plans. Anywhere is good for me.
Thanks for heading it up, and making reservations.
Cheers

I'm interested. Be great to meet a lot of you in person and to see many of you again that I haven't seen in years.

I do Love the Tahoe area, but Im thinking the Deschutes Valley area is the plan. Im going to check out some maps on line for good spots for us to stay. If any of you have a place in mind in that area please feel free to email me or call me and I will check them out.
