August in Moab is a big no. Too freak'n hot. May is cool (litterally). Must plan a weekend when there isn't a Jeep Jamboree (well, crap, I shouldn't have said that now should I have Jage).

I've done Glacier in July and August. Always crowded (not Yellowstone crowded, but crowded). Going to the Sun Road doesn't alway open before July, so that's a consideration too.

If Glacier is the call, we live only a few miles from the park in Whitefish. You'd want to stay away from the main campgrounds and head up the dirt road that follows the North Fork of the Flathead River up towards Pole Bridge. Kintla Lake and Bowman Lake are great spots. Tons of dirt roads and some of the most insane backcountry you've ever seen. July and August are awesome and June can be a bit cool up here. Just a thought.

I agree with staying away from moab during the Jeep weekends. Jeep owning SMBer's are one thing....

Late July might be too hot on the way to Glacier for me. If Great Basin Natl park is cool enough I can make the Tetons in a day from there. Don't know how far to Glacier. Always wanted to go there.

Tetons to West Glacier is about 7-8 hours of easy driving but you'll want to soak up the scenery on the way, especially once you pass Missoula. I'll bet Ed in Montana and I could put together some pretty cool trail runs up here. Maybe a little fly fishing too.

We're for Glacier, the latest in August possible. It is the only place on the list we have not been too. August is the only time we can get off for any length of time.
The crowds go down starting the second week in August with kids having to start school.

Someone want to volunteer to check with Glacier, see if there is a vehicle limit, how they would feel about an unofficial gathering? Who we would need to coordinate with? I would but I'm hardly diplomatic and would probably wind up getting all SMBs banned from the park all together!
