Since October 8, 2011 is Yom Kippur, we will have to miss this one. Maybe next time.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011
I would like to check that out.
The gf & I are both from Vegas originally - I raced through V of F many times on sportbikes years ago.
We were in Vegas this past Oct and maybe again this coming Oct.
October is an excellent month to travel with the fall colors out.
Redrock has a nice cut through it to Lovell canyon but tricky for a big rig.
I can also put together a 170 mile, mostly off-road loop around the Spring Mtn range.
It takes 12-16 hours to complete.
Could be a fun meet.

Actually Buffington would be a great place for the Meet and Greet, but I know some people like their toilets and showers. The Buffington Pocket road is a backroad scenic by-way that few people ever see.

Sounds like the plan should be to go there instead. I agree regarding developed campsites. If i wanted neighbors, i'd stay home :-) Anyway, this would be a more social event if i'm able to make it, so a campground wouldn't be the end of the world for me. I almost always prefer dispersed camping though.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011
Please put me on the list for Valley of Fire in October ... it'll be my first M&G. I can arrive on Thursday afternoon.
I stayed in V of F last October and got to see a fantastic lighting show and rain storm come through that night which closed the road north out of the park. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the park this year.

Great to have you there Philip. In August I will remind everyone of the Meet and Greet and get everyone's information so I can save some sites for those who are coming. It should be a lot of fun.
See you there!

It's starting to look like we will have a great turnout. We may be taking over the entire campground.

So, are we going to have to limit attendees to the capacity of the campground?

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011
I don't think so. We could always double up and put two vans in a site. Also, anyone who wanted to be more primitive could camp at Buffington Pockets, which is about ten miles away, or St. Thomas, which is five miles away, or a number of "pull off the main road" places in the area just outside V of F. I think there will be plenty of room for everyone, particularly if I get there early enough so I can reserve sites. My plan is to personally pay the fee the first day for however many sites we need to lock them in and then just have people reimburse me. Since the sites are first come first served, once one is in a site it is theirs for however long they want. So I just need to grab the site for the first night someone plans to arrive. We will know more regarding how many people plan to attend when we get closer to the date.
