4x4 is not required. One could take 2wd all the up to the top of Alamo and around the top with no trouble this time of year. There is camping up there as well but it does take a while to drive up.

I'm a new (well, since February) SoCal owner of a used 4x2 SMB. I've done quite a few solo fixes, mods, and improvements (solar, house battery replacement, interior repairs, home brew interior shower, modified bike hitch, improvements, etc.). I'm definitely eager to meet everyone and learn more about your SMBs - I'm still getting used to the steering and different noises it makes (at least compared to the cars I've driven). I'm also considering converting to 4x4 so I'm looking to learn about that too. So, to sum up, YES, I'd definitely be interested in a meet-up. Filling out survey...

I just gave my vote on the Doodle pole. Thought I should put it up here.
Our Sep. is completely booked so the first weekend in Oct. is our first chance for a meet-up. So if it turns out to be that weekend, we'll be there. Gorman sounds like a good place for a meet-up, particularly if it's going to be an overnighter for some. If it works out, I will be planning on staying the night and making a weekend of it.
If it turns out that more people can make it in Sep., have a great time! And I'll be looking forward to the next one.
