Merced River Canyon
When I took the little trip with Zeta (Tom) we headed into the Merced River Canyon that I've written about on my site. I was talking with Tom about the Yosemite Valley Railroad that once ran along the Merced River. Tom talked about Ansel Adams and a ride he took on the RR to Yosemite.
Jack Burgess knows more about this RR than anybody when it comes to this long abandoned track and posted:

I was telling Tom about Jack's little model railroad he made about this train of the past. Check these links out:
Nice job Jack...I want a tour one of these days.

Re: Merced River Canyon
I had seen pictures of Jack's layout in a trade magazine before, but I had no idea........
Jack, I'm not easily impressed, and I am in awe! You have impressive modeling talents.

Re: Merced River Canyon
This is cool!!!!!! Where is this layout? I'd like to see it. Daveb, you need to be my guide on a trip in this area. I've never been there . . . and I live so close by. Where's a good place for a Meet and Greet next year?

Re: Merced River Canyon
If you know the area that Jack has modeled here, it's unreal how true to life it is. I've grown up in the area and seeing his layout was a real eye opener. The plants, trees, powerlines...everything is just like it was and still looks today with the exception of stuff that no longer exists due to age. Some of the bridges that once were up when I was a kid are to scale on his layout and bring back memories. The landscape is true to fact and still looks the same. A few years ago I showed a buddy of a closeup photo from the web of a train station with a person standing at it and refused to believe it was a picture of model RR.
In 09 I talked with Charlie56 who knows Jack personally and told me he will open to appointment. In fact Jack PMed me to say come on up. Maybe we can get a run in the Santa Rosa area. I'd love to have those guys guide us on a little trip.

Re: Merced River Canyon
I live in Newark in the Bay Area. I finished the layout in June of this year after 31 years of work. It represents the Yosemite Valley Railroad in HO scale as it was in August 1939. It fills a 20x20 space with two levels (three is some areas). There are photos of the layout on my website at:
