Blessing to his family and hope they find closure...

Wish is right too...we have a Satellite phone whenever we travel...$60 for 60 min for the month...no carry overs, but no up charge or re-connect fee when you want to by more minutes...your families and loved ones deserve this little accessory...even if only a pre-set "check-in" call to make sure all is good. We've never had to use it in an emergency, but we do the check in call when we know we will be out of cell phone range

It would be nice if law enforcement/searchers could locate a sat phone if the owner did NOT check in. In this case if the owner had one but did not call, we would still have the same situation.

Really a simple inreach at each stop would have helped and yes I do that.

I do too, for hiking. Mine is a Spot. Mostly I bought it so the kids can keep up with my wife and I when we disappear in to the backcountry for days as we love to do but don't do enough.

In a few days I'll be camping in the same place he checked out. I'll have a cold one in his memory, and I do plan to give a trip report when I return fully alive.
