Missing person and Sportsmobile

Good morning van community,

We are reaching out on behalf of one of our customers...Catherine Walker has reported her son in law missing. Norm has a 2014 Silver Sportsmobile Econoline. Bumpers, winch, etc. Norm is from the Costa Mesa area and is currently missing in the Sierras. He was in the Big Pine area heading South on 395 towards Lone Pine. He was going to camp in Big Pine Tuesday 2/25 night but it was closed so he was looking for another spot. The CHP has been notified and will be searching via helicopter but we wanted to get the word out and do what we can to make sure Norm is found safe and sound.
If you have any information you can contact Catherine Walker 206-769-6008
or contact Sportsmobile West 800-827-3071.

Thank you all for your attention to this matter.

Hopefully he's just out of cell phone range and having a good time camping!

I think a photo of the Van and Norm would be extremely helpful.

^^^ agree on that being a great idea. Lots of folks on this forum out and about with good eyes for spotting other vans. Knowing exactly what it looks like would be ideal.

Regardless posting up here for the family was a really nice gesture. Hopefully, like mentioned, he is just enjoying some solitude. Please keep us posted.

Wow, I had no idea SMBW was actually a member on the forum [emoji15]

Regardless, good idea to post here for extra eyes.

Have to commend SMBW for utilizing the Forum as a resource, also hoping everything turns out for the best.

Heading out in the morning to meet up at some point with Smb after clearing some of the normal camp spots on the way up.
Will have 146.520 on for simplex.

I saw this on the SMB Facebook Group. Here is a picture of the van very similar to his and the post:

Ok we have a missing smb member off the 395. I was just contacted to come up with logistics and get a game plan to help out. He was on his way home and not exploring the area so please keep a eye out.

Please keep a look out off the 395 south of lone pine.

This is the what I have from Thursday.

I so appreciate your fast response! His name is Norm Shaughnessy. His home is Costa Mesa, CA. He had the vehicle built in 2014. His wife, Tanya Fuqua, is finding all the literature on the van. Norm really went all out when he ordered the conversion and I know he worries about theft, so I am going to hope he invested in one of those features. It’s silver and has everything on it – winch in front, and in the back he has the big box with all sorts of stickers plus a water tank. License is vanity plate - 4XDNOSR.

He was in the Big Pine area heading south on 395 towards Lone Pine. He was going to camp in Big Pine Tuesday night but it was closed so he was looking for another spot. He knows the area well. This is so hard to understand.

Thank you so very much for putting the word out. The CA Highway Patrol has a helicopter scheduled tomorrow morning for other purposes but said they can use it to start searching for Norm’s van

Whoa. 4 days now? This is not good. I would hope he just dropped off the grid but I would think his wife and MIL would know if that was common for him. Not good at all.

Good luck out there. Wish I could cruise around and help but it's a long commute.
