BTW nice report.

I am not up to date on all the fire details as I didn't know it happened until I got there and saw the burnt trees. I did do a little reading just now and according to the LA times ~1.3million trees burned and less than 200,000 are expected to survive. Total area of the fire was over 40,000 acres before it was contained.
I usually go out that way at least 2-3 times a year so will be interesting to see how the recovery progresses over the next decade. Hopefully the joshua trees can make a comeback.

Sadly, joshua trees are not adapted to fire occurrence and their future is looking bleak...

Perfect timing. Headed there real soon and was wondering about getting my van under the train tracks at the bottom of Macedonia Canyon Rd. Now I'm more optimistic. My understanding is that there are two undercrossing options about 1/4 mile apart. Do you know which one you used?

Good Read
I enjoyed the read and photos of your trip. Regarding the underpass you went through, do you recall the clearance. I have a sprinter and may not make it through, is there an alternative way?
Thanks
Sam

I am just under 10' tall and couldn't make it. We could have spent probably 20 minutes and dug it deeper so I could but there was an even taller van with us that wasn't going to get through.
There are a couple alternatives. The safest one is to just go up and around on cedar canyon road and do macedonia canyon trail from the other direction.

The tunnel farther south is taller. 9' would probably make it with a little digging

Nice pics and thanks for sharing.
Underpasses like that make me second guess getting a taller high top. I think there's one or two on the Kokopelli trail too.
However, wouldn't deflating the tires be an easier option than digging?
