Take a look at Mitchell Caverns in the Mojave Preserve. Great tour through the caverns and about 10 spots to camp in. I think it is free to camp. Great view over the valley and about 15 miles off the highway.

If you're looking for a quick place to stay off the 15, the roadside camping off Cima Road at Teutonia Peak trail is nice and convenient. 12 miles south the 15 on the east side of Cima. There are spots at least 1/4 mile in, maybe more, and are pretty secluded behind large rocks. If you want something farther in and more secluded, Caruther's Canyon is nice but about an hour in off the 15.

The Cima Dome backcountry campsites are nice, but they are way up there in elevation for the desert. We camped there for one night last March, and dang near froze my butt off with 40 degree temps and a sharp cold wind. Had to escape down hill to the Kelso Depot to warm up at their tiny cafe.

Near if not in the Mojave Reserve via Rasor and Afton off the 15.

BW,

Out of curiousity, where did you end up staying and how did you like it? I am planning on a one nighter in Mojave the next two weekends going and coming back. Would love to know if you found a new spot other than the stand-by Teutonia Pk Trail.

Best-
Steve
