Nevada Utah Road Trip

Great trip by the looks of it,and a question for you!Did you just show up at Great Basin and pick a site or book it ahead of time.

We've learned to roll in early rather than late to get a campground spot. We staged the night before about 45 min west of Sacramento pass and rolled in to campground before 10 AM on a Monday morning and had our pick. Didn't used to be that way but seems like what it takes these days pretty much any NP.

Good trip report!

Just got back from another Utah trip. This time I followed the original route of the transcontinental railroad along the northern edge of the Great Salt Lake. Utah is amazing with the many varied terrains it offers - something for all seasons.

We, also, just got back from a nevada, Utah, Colorado trip. 18 days. Boon-docked all except three nights which were in National Park campgrounds using my senior lifetime pass (Great Basin $7.50, Great Sand Dunes $10, Black Canyon of Gunnison $4.50)! We aired down and up several times for long stretches dirt roads. Seven National Parks and a couple Monuments. Now the E350 is in the shop for planned oil change, rotors and pads and unplanned new rear axles, bearings. and seals. Sixteen years and 162,000 miles so I’m satisfied with how well the van has held up.

How were the road conditions on Burr Trail? That campsite pic among the cottonwoods is speaking to me.

Yeah that camp was sweet! Right at the bottom of the hill East of Lower Gulch Trailhead. Great hiking there too. The road was excellent... paved until the NP and graded after. Notom rd north looked good. Since yr asking I figure you know those unpaved roads all go to heck and can be impassable when wet. Found out the hard way a few years back thinking we'd sneak in to Bolder the back way

Thanks Joe. My biggest concern is getting on a switchback trail while towing a trailer, and having to turn-around or back up.
