Northern Idaho Montana trip

The wife and I are taking a weeklong trip to Glacier NP from Vancouver Wa. Plan is to leave Saturday and camp in Idaho on the way and maybe find a mountain bike ride. Get to Glacier Sunday afternoon and get a camp spot. After that we're up in the air.
How long we stay at Glacier is up to us. Would love to findsome mountain bike trails near Glacier or Missoula. Any advice would be appreciated.

Although I haven't done this trip yet, some family members have and would highly recommend it. It's down (or up) a historic railroad grade outside of Wallace Idaho just off I-90. It can be ridden one way and then you can catch a shuttle back up or you can do it round trip The Route of the Hiawatha Scenic Bike Trail (Official Website)

Safe travels!

I was there two years ago. Glacier NP is awesome and there is some great riding nearby. I did two separate rides on the Whitefish trails, https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/565...eaver-lollipop. I also spent a day in the bike park at Whitefish Mountain. I found the bike park to be much more downhill oriented than some I've visited, still fun, but not much to ride in the intermediate range, one beginner trail and several more advanced. In addition, there is actually a trail in Glacier Park that allows bikes: Old Flathead Ranger Station Trail Glacier National Park. This is an old double-track that has turned into singletrack and is novel for the fact that it allows mountain bikes in a national park! The views are scenic and the terrain is interesting.

I was intrigued by this place: Whitefish Bike Retreat - Whitefish Bike Retreat. I drove in and wanted to stay there, but they were full up during my visit. Have fun, watch for bears and other wildlife.

I can also recommend The Route of the Hiawatha Scenic Bike Trail, mentioned above, which I road with family on a prior trip enroute to Yellowstone. We rode it with a family of 4 including my daughters who were 11 & 13 at the time. We did the shuttle, so it was mostly downhill. You ride through several tunnels, one over a mile long, and over several high trestles. It is fun and scenic, with interpretive signs that tell the history of the railroad.

As a side note, we arrived in the late afternoon, went and signed up for the ride the next morning, and were able to find dispersed camping in the vicinity.

The Whitefish trials are really awesome. We did a really excellent ride from the Whitefish bike resort all the way into town and then they shuttled us back to the top. The entire area around the bike resort is worth doing.

With a Montana State Parks' non-resident entrance pass, $35 - good for one year from month of issue, there is no charge for entry & camping is discounted. May be useful or not depending on your time in state & amount of dispersed camping. Purchase online or at many parks.

I agree. Be sure to carry a good headlamp for the tunnels!

You live in Vancouver? For some reason I thought you were in Hood River.
