Ocotillo - Anza Borrego Suggestions

Happy Holidays Peeps!
Looking to put together a doable route for a 3 night trip this upcoming weekend. We have completed some trails in the area such as Canyon sin Nombre, Vallecito Creek Rd, and Grapevine Canyon. Anyone here willing to share a route they had success with in this area? Anza Borrego can be hard on full size vans!

There are lots of places in Anza Borrego you can go in your van. Off of Vallecito Rd there are Arroyo Seco Del Diablo and Arroyo Tapiato. There is a road connecting the two up near the end. There is a very nice camping spot near where this road drops into Arroyo Tapiado. Along this wash there are mud caves. Closer to I-8 is Mortero Wash which leads up to rhe old Dos Cabeza rail station and water tank. There is some nice camping in that area. Also along S-2 on the west side is Indian Gorge with nice camping. Farther up S-2 there is pinyon mountain valley. Up in the Borrego Valley area there are the Badlands, Coyote Canyon, Split Mountain and Clark Dry Lake/Rockhouse Canyon.

I've been going out to AB since about 1970 and driving my SMB out there for the last four years. With a bit of care, 4wd and low range you can go most places out in AB. Feel free to contact me for more details.

Just make sure you stop at the visitors center to pick up maps and learn the rules of where you can and can’t park and camp, especially along the washes.....they take that stuff pretty seriously, as some of us found out a few years ago.

News said you can get in to AB (without paying) but the visitor centers are closed and there are no services due to the Gov shutdown. Not sure if campgrounds are closed. I don't trust the standard news media but I'd check before you go.

Anza Borrego is a State Park and should not be affected by the federal government shutdown.

The sandy road to Font's Point is nice and camping there is great for enjoying the sunset/sunrise.
