Keep in mind that if you're over 3,500 feet or so, you're going to begin to hit snow even in May. I tried to ride Newberry Rim a couple of years ago in June and got turned back by drifts even on the south facing slopes. Depending on the weather in April and May, it's possible to have remnant snow down to 1,500 to 2,000'.

McKenzie River Trail and the lower elevation trails around Bend should be in good shape. Hood River has many options from essentially sea level to 6,000', so you are guaranteed to find something rideable. Central and Eastern Oregon camping and 4WD should be okay as long as you are out of the Cascades, but be prepared for cooler nights.

You will find some great stuff, just be prepared with several options and let the conditions on the ground dictate where you go.

Yep - you'll have to play much of the higher elevation stuff by ear that early on. Lower elevation Bend trails should be in good shape. The upper end sections of the North Umpqua Trail (Dread and Terror / Deer Leap) are some of my all time favorites and for me the NUT trumps the MRT.

For 4x4 stuff I haven't spent too much time exploring around Central Oregon yet, but hope to do some trips down to the Christmas Valley / Fort Rock area this spring and will post up anything I find about those areas.

If you like beer, we've certainly got our fair share of great breweries here!

If you are in the neighborhood of Fort Rock and CV you might want to check out crack in the ground, hole in he ground, and the lost forest. I took a 2wd onto them but a 4wd rig would have made more sense.

Those have been on my list for a while. Just need to load up the family and get out there!

Crack in the ground is best on a hot day. It will be much cooler at the bottom. If it is a cool day wear a coat because it will be down right cold at the bottom.
