Said house is cousin Billy's? If Sedona is roasting and you decide to ride in Flag give me a holler. AZ trail with a shuttle to FS 418 and back to town has become a classic ride. 6 miles of trail in aspens and meadows between 8 and 9000 feet followed by a 1500' downhill. Gradual climb back to the Schultz Creek area and lots of options for another downhill. 18 miles from the TH to my house.

All right then, have fun with Cousin Billy, the digs in Sedona, and the Krampus.

For those that are going to be camping nearby the Expo on the Coconino Nat. Forest there are fire restrictions in place. At present time, no campfires so don't bother bringing a bunch of wood unless you are in a designated campground. It wouldn't be surprising to see some sections of the forest closed to access in another couple of weeks. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coconino/ ... PRD3797036

Re: Overland Expo 2014

We plan on hitting the vendors on Sat only and then driving out to the Kelly Point Overlook on the North Rim. Looks interesting from a trip report I saw on here. Prefer to do something like this on the South side but it does not look like there are as many options for the type of remote camping on the rim.

If I missed anything on the South side like Kelly Point Overlook let me know. Still open to options.

Re: Overland Expo 2014

Brent -

That was me that went to Kelly Point. Can't wait to see some video from your quadcopter out there.

Make sure you bring a saw and I hope you don't mind pin striping your van. Also, may not want to bring your bike on the back as there is a lot of opportunity for it to get snagged on trees.

Plan on at least two nights at the point if you can. It's a long haul out there, but I think well worth it.

Have fun!

Re: Overland Expo 2014

I'm game for Kelly point. I just need to get the place in order before saturday.

I was planning on camping local to the expo depending on festivities but willing to change for a exploration event

Re: Overland Expo 2014

Phil, how long was that drive out?

Already have torn the van and my bike up with trees....lol

Hoping to take the Octocopter if the wife does not go. Quadcopter if she does.

Would one night there and another at the next point West be feasable?

Re: Overland Expo 2014

It's a bit of a haul to get to the point once you hit dirt. We camped a night on the way in and a night on the way out and 2 nights at the point. If you try to bomb it out and back you may just feel beat up. It's not technical, but the last 20 or 30 miles is very rocky and slow going.

I think total distance in once you hit dirt was around 100 miles.

If you are thinking of going from Flagstaff to Kelley Point in a single shot, that would be a long day. Just make sure you have some good cocktails lined up for when you get to the point.

Re: Overland Expo 2014

Sounds like what I am looking for!!

Thinking of driving from Flagstaff to trailhead and camp there overnight. Then drive in. No rush really. Like to take our time like you did.

If I remember correctly it's BLM? Can you target shoot anywhere in that area legally/safely?

Re: Overland Expo 2014

We did target shooting at the point (no, not pointed out over the canyon) and at our camp spot on the way out. We were really by ourselves out there. We saw two guys on quads on the way in on the first day and a rancher on the way out the last day. That was it.

Dig up as much directional information as you can before you go. We managed to get lost a couple times, but in the end found our way to our destinations. I have a KMZ with some waypoints I marked before going in if you want it. I may have my GPS track somewhere too if you want it (if I can find it). PM me and I can send to you. I've never been successful uploading those type of files to the forum.
