Peru w/link to some pictures

Yes Peru. But, not with the SMB, rather with Overseas Adventure Travel.

http://www.oattravel.com/Find-Trips.asp ... dAdventure

Going in my biggest worry was the food. I'm a picky eater, and the food was great! Plenty of locally grown foods to eat, and great tastes. Did you know Peru is the birthplace of the potato? The have over 1000 varieties of potato! And large kernel corn. And Quinoa. And more. I did gain weight!

This trip requires some hiking - never more than a couple of miles - and some exposure to high altitudes. The post trip extension to Lake Titicaca was over 13,000'.

All in all a great experience. If anyone is thinking about a trip like this, I would highly reccomend this trip. It is a small tour group ~16 people max. So, smaller buses and smaller groups can go places the big groups cannot. The local guides are friendly, knowledgeable and make everything go smoothly, even the airport and luggage was handled quickly and professionally.

Someday, we will have some pictures posted to an photosharing website and then I will post a link so you can look at them.

Feel free to ask questions.

No affilitation other than I used this company for the trip.

Mike

Re: Peru

Sweet, where're your pictures?! :-)

I went to Peru last fall and toured around on a dual sported XR400 for 2 weeks. That was a lot of fun. Agree, the food is mostly very good. Altitude was a problem for some people. The east slope of the Andes is one of the most beautiful places i've ever seen. I want to move there and live in a mud house and be a simple farmer.

Re: Peru

Mike, you know if you want a gallery or blog or whatever just let me know. Otherwise I recommend Picasa from google, it's what I use despite all the other options.

Re: Peru

Good to see you had a great trip. We were in Peru several years ago. Did the 4 day/3 night hike to Machu Picchu and then spent several days/nights kayaking on Lake Titicaca. It was definitely one of my favorite trips to date. Mike, I agree that the food was excellent, especially the various soups.

Re: Peru

I repeat:

Someday, we will have some pictures posted to an photosharing website and then I will post a link so you can look at them.

Probably we will use Picasa. That is up to my wife, it is her project. Don't expect anything soon.

For those who can't wait, here is a small sample:

Cathedral in Lima. Pizzaro's bones are here.

The Sacred Valley

Terracing on hills

View down from Machu Pichu

Machu Pichu

Machu Pichu

The road up to Machu Pichu

Farming the traditional way

Sometime in the next 6 months my wife may have an album ready for viewing. I'll let you know when I know.

Re: Peru

Hey Mike,
Good for you. I remember your reticence about making this trip with your wife. Ruth and I encouraged you to do it regardless of your reservations. So glad it turned out to be a great trip.

Re: Peru

Ever since I was in grade school I giggle a little when someone says "Titicaca"!
