Quick trip to the dunes

Finished running my errands Sat. and over the radio I hear how nice it's going to be in the desert that day. So I loaded up the dog and we headed out of LA, not sure where, but any excuse to get of of town is a good one.
Was thinking I'd never had my new tires in any serious sand yet, or for that matter my van either, so at 2:00 pm we're headed to Dumont Dunes, just off the South East corner of Death Valley.
Arrived around 6:00 to 80 deg weather and a light breeze, nice because this time of year days are 105+, and it doesn't cool down much at night.
Spent the next 3 or 4 hours cruising around the dunes then headed home, it was nice to spend that time there so late in the season.

Great stuff, looks like a blast. What PSI do you run on your tires for dunes like that?

I was at around 18-20 psi, I think 15 would have been perfect.

Nice pics! Looks like you’re all alone in the middle of the Sahara! Would sure like to get there sometime.

Eight months out of the year there's 10,000 people there at any given time, June to Sept. is the off season, that's why I like to take advantage of cool summer days.
There are some diehard quad guys who go out so Sat. nights to race up competition hill, they get there about midnight and leave at 6:00 am, other than that it's quite, beautiful, Coco smiles the whole time we're there. :l

Just go mid-week. Even during peak season it's empty.
