Public safety, government employees (law enforcement among others) are considered 'mission essential' and continue their jobs in the event of a Government shutdown.

I'd still go for it. All they will do is ask you to leave. The timing is too close. Plead the 5th

The latest info from Panamint Springs Resort:
Quote:
Our gas station and all other services at Panamint Springs Resort will be available. Death Valley National Park is officially closed but they are allowing through traffic, as the park is not gated.

Re: Racetrack, Death Valley Group Trip - October 4-6, 2013
I just finished unloading the van and showering the dust off me. My sincerest thanks go to all of you that helped to make trip so memorable. It will take a while to sort through the hundreds of photos, but I will be posting my trip report soon. I hope you all had as much fun as I did and can't wait for our next trip together.

Re: Racetrack, Death Valley Group Trip - October 4-6, 2013
We got home about 2 and I just finished going through my pics and adding up my gas receipts.....1021 miles, 102 gallons of gas, glad I didn't buy it all at Panamint Springs!!!!!.
Steve it was a fine trip and thanks for suggesting it. We have been to The Race Track but it still just makes me happy to see this beautiful part of the world and I had never been on Hunter Mountain before. Stunning. On our way out we encountered a huge bobcat stalking a herd of deer as we reached the summit. The bobcat was not happy being interrupted. The deer forgot to thank me. Ron and Brad and Woody and Don and Tim and Rachel and Eric and Madison and John and my wife are to be thanked for their participation. It was a perfect group of disparate but friendly people. If I can figure out how to attach pics from my iPad I'll do that later.
Thanks again Steve.
