Saturday May 4th Spring 2013 Sportsmobile SMB So Cal Meet

*Update 4/5/13: Official date of meet is May 4th, 2013.*

**Update 4/20/13: Cars and Coffee is holding a private event so do NOT meet there, instead meet at Flappy Jacks at 0830 or the campground at 1300**

Plan was to meet up at Cars and Coffee. Since I have just been informed that it will be canceled due to a private event, we will meet for breakfast/coffee at Flappy Jacks in Orange (91fwy/55fwy). Then caravan to camp. Or if you wish just meet us at camp where we can enjoy a potluck dinner (participation optional) and trade stories by campfire.

Please do the following:
1) *POLL CLOSED* Click on the link below and vote for what date(s) works for you. Feel free to share the link with others.

http://doodle.com/du7949rpqkd69rxk

2) *CAMP SECURED* Post suggestions on campsites that are large enough to accommodate our rigs, have/allow campfires, access to campsite 2WD friendly (looking out for me 2 legged SMBs ) and located within 2 hours of Irvine, CA.

Here's the itinerary for that day:
0830: Some of us will be meeting for breakfast at Flappy Jacks, 2848 N Santiago Blvd, Orange, CA 92867, then caravan to camp
1300: Meet at JUNIPER SPRINGS GROUP CAMP
1800: Optional potluck dinner
1900: Campfire

We'll be the 1st to camp this site this season!!! It's closed all year long and happens to open the day before we arrive.

Camp directions: In Southern Ca 45 miles from San Bernardino. Take I-10 east, (State Highway 330) to Running Springs. State Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake Dam. State Highway 38 17.9 miles, 2N01 (Obscure dirt road). First 100 yards rough, left 2.5 miles, 2N64Y right .6 miles to campground.

Please note that I paid $79 for the night. This will be divided evenly by the number of rigs staying overnight.

Hope to see you real soon.

Send me a PM if you want my mobile number.

More Camp info:
Juniper Springs Group Campground is a primitive facility located about 10 miles from Big Bear Lake, a scenic, year-round recreation destination. The camp offers a great location from which to explore the mountains of Southern California.

Natural Features:
The campground is located in the San Bernardino Mountains at an elevation of 7,739 feet, where ponderosa pines dot the site. A pinyon pine and juniper woodland and meadow surround the area and a small pond is on-site.

Recreation:
Visitors enjoy hiking and mountain biking from a variety of trailheads that can be accessed near the campground. Off-road vehicle use is popular as well. Nearby Cactus Flats contains approximately 68 miles of off-road vehicle trails. A picnic area is also available at Cactus Flats.

Fishing and boating are popular activities at nearby Big Bear Lake. Anglers can look forward to a catch of trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish and largemouth bass, among other species. Because of the very cold water and the presence of underwater obstacles near the shorelines, swimming at the lake is discouraged.

Facilities:
The campground offers a large group site for tent or RV camping. It can accommodate up to 40 people and eight vehicles. Standard SUVs or vehicles with four-wheel drive and/or higher clearance are required to access the campground.

The site is equipped with picnic tables and a campfire circle. A large grill is also available. Vault toilets and non-potable water are provided. Trash collection and drinking water are not available.

Nearby Attractions:
A grocery store, general store and restaurants can be found 11 miles away in Big Bear Lake. Showers are available at Serrano Campground, 15 miles from Juniper Springs. San Bernardino is about 50 miles away.

GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):
34.21972, -116.71639
34°13'11"N, 116°42'59"W

We need a tie breaker. It's tied between 5/4/13 and 5/11/13.

Please vote so I can move on with planning the campsite location.

TIA

It's official. Meet is Sat, May 4th, 2013. See you at Cars n Coffee then tbd campground. Most likely BLM in the forest or desert as backup. Will make sure its big enough, fun enough and 2wd accessible with trails nearby for our 4wd buddies. Stay tuned for location details. Remember, feel free to meet up at any point of the intinerary.
