Re: Sighting Rifle Falls, CO

Had a beautiful drive down CO149. Has anyone done this: http://www.alpineloop.com/HTML/index.html ?

Looks great, maybe earlier in the year.

Sighting Rifle Falls, CO

Abuquiu, NM

Heading to Albuquerque to check on my chain of fried chicken stores.
Not one Sportsmobile--except for that Clooney type. The whole trip, all the way down through Colorado and New Mexico. Where is everybody?

Alpine loop, yes, but in a Jeep.

Where is everybody? Home by the fire.

Re: Sighting Rifle Falls, CO

We took the Loon over Cinnamon Pass in the Loop to test its four wheel cred. Took the west to east path (Silverton to Lake City). Not our style. Hugely rocky and congested on west side, sharp & steep hairpins on the east side along with yawning holes. Not to mention dodging ATVs. We're not motorized 4-wheelers to begin with, will walk (almost) anywhere, bike or ski most places, not interested in worrying about rolling our rig. Others on the forum will feel very differently.

OTOH, anything in that corner of Colorado is gorgeous.

At least some of the NM-ers are enjoying (?) the below normal temps in the UP, gale-force winds and storm waves crashing on the Lake Superior shoreline.

I'm with you Don for the most part. We enjoyed it in a rented Jeep (did the Ouray area over to Telluride and the other side up to Engineer pass), but we saw NO one on the trail there hardly. I think that type of terrain is right up Clooney-types alley though. Personally I wouldn't do that stuff in a van.

K-turns on a 30 degree slope where the hairpin is so tight you can see your rear wheels out the passenger window bring out my innate feelings of mortality. :-)

Westy guys aren't sitting on their asses by the fire--I've seen over a dozen.

That said, I finally saw a white RB 4 x 4 on highway 95 just outside of Blanding, Utah--and it wasn't mine!
