Sightseeing in Walla Walla - suggestions wanted

We are headed to Walla Walla WA for three days the end of May for my delightful wife's class reunion at Whitman College. She will be spending her days with her old college friends. I am looking for suggested day trips to go on while she is busy. Will have my camera and hiking gear along. I will need to be back for dinner each night so am figuring that whereever I go needs to be within two hours drive of WW. Am looking for suggested roads to travel or interesting hikes. Thanks for the help.

Palouse Falls SP would be high on my list.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Whitman Mission site. Very powerful and educational. Palouse Falls is on my list for another trip. And then, of course, there is the wine...

Of course you know about all the opportunities in the Gorge on the way there or back. I finally went to the Gorge Discovery Center ten years of driving by it. It was good. Also, you might check out the Sage Center in Boardman.

We stopped at L'Ecole winery, just outside of walla walla, a nice small winery in an old school house, their semillon was really nice. Worth it for a few hours to check out.
