Mojave Rd

This is my first post in months ( Steve E-mailed to make sure I was not dead)
I had a great time on the 2008 DV trip. Ive been on the Mojave Road three times in the last 25 years. I think its a great idea for a forum trip. I have a issue of The Mojave Road by The friends of the Mojave Rd. Its 2 inches thick and has great history and details. So count me in.

Jeff

P.S. I see adventureduo came over to the SMB side. I would like to try a Horizon trailer.

Just as a clarification, yes, SMB West does charge for their trips (which are limited to 4WD SMBs) but the cost includes catered breakfasts and dinners each day, campground fees (for the trips which have been held in the Silverton, CO area, they reserve an entire City-owned campground), outhouse rentals, etc. These trips were started about a dozen years ago as a way to give owners the experience and knowledge needed to get their rigs out on the trails. They have grown very popular and are now limited to typically 100 rigs max. For trail ride rallys, they have different trail rides on different days with experienced leaders who have pre-run the trails (the number of vans on each trail ride is limited too).

Every other year is a training rally where they set up an off-road course and let you drive SMB's own vans over the course. There are also "classes" on fixing tires, taking apart and rebuilding Warn hubs, using a winch, etc. Reps are there from ARB, Warn, Ford, etc.

Obviously, not everyone is going to like camping with 100 other vans but the locations that they select allow everyone to spread out and you only get together with everyone for meals (a very large tent along with tables and chairs is provided for meals and evening entertainment).

We have gone to all of the rallys we could and enjoy them. But we'd also very much enjoy participating in a Forum rally.

Are you talking about the Barker Ranch? I was there in March, had no problem, don't even remember thinking about a clearance problem. Maybe I'm blind?

Mengal was challenging (2nd SMB 4x4 trip for me), but taken slow enough and as part of a group should not be a problem.

This is the branch going in to Barker ranch. I had someone on the roof lifting the branch over my racks.
