Re: So Cal SMB winter meet up 2012

Anza Borrego would be a great place to go, my wife and I have been going there for years. Fish Creek is not a bad idea, but we also like the northern parts of the park and would suggest some of the canyons around Arroyo Salado; Coachwhip Canyon is right off S22 and though sandy, 2x4 SMB should be able to get in without problem and it is secluded and sheltered from the wind. There several great routes to take up various canyons, Fonts Point... and the town of Borrgeo is close by for fuel, food...

If Fish Creek is the spot, some of the 4X4 SMBs might want to drive up to S2 and take Canyon Sin Nombre down to Arroyo Seco Del Diablo and the Mud Caves (one of my favorite places) and then continue on down the "Drop Off". I've never done this in a SMB but have taken full size trucks down it and then through the next mile or so that is tight and then into the top of Fish Creek and complete the loop back to camp. If getting through is a problem, driving back out to S2 is not, and the caves are worth the trip.

Jan and I will be out there well before December, so we will Prerun it and let everyone know.

So Cal SMB winter meet up 2012

Well...

No company Holiday Parties have been scheduled yet - and I sure that hope they avoid that weekend.

And as long as this remains the case, Steve and Merrie W will be joining y'all. She didn't join me for Hungry Valley but certainly will for this one.

We won't be in a Sportsmobile - but I think you'll like what were bringing !!!

Re: So Cal SMB winter meet up 2012

The Anza Borrego Desert is a great place for us to meet. I know it pretty well after many years (25) of visits (all 4x4). Split Mtn road/Fish creek is a fine and scenic area with open areas large enough for us to group camp. I can't recall any facilities in there. Northern section has many good places, Fonts Point, Coyote Canyon Road, and various locations off S22. I don't think we'll be doing the Squeeze or Heart Attack Hill, you can thank me later. I have done them in my Land Rover, some real hairy shit, that fortunately our rigs simply won't fit through.

Some images from the area:

Fish creek is nice.. I love that area of Anza Borrego.. but can get hairy when it rains..

Another alternative near by is Blair Valley:
http://www.eugenecarsey.com/camp/anza-b ... valley.htm

It's a huge area so I'm sure there will be more recommendations..

We like to stick near line of sight of the Blue Inn since that has the best cell phone data connection..cell tower.
Usually North of 78 between Commune Rd and the Pole Line Rd.. and away from the facilities..

Enduro heaven..

About 300 lbs or more if I can get somebody to go with me down there.
