Is the gate open to Blackstar? Seems like it's always closed (the gate that's perhaps 2 miles past the Christmas tree farm. Down where most people park to start MTB'ing up Blackstar.)

If that gate is open, that would be a sweet way in for the vans. I remember Blackstar as a pretty smooth run too.

The alternative of going up Maple Springs (at the back end of Silverado Canyon) gets rougher than some would probably like pretty fast.

Update- we will not be able to attend tomorrow's event due to an incident in Barstow that left my van in a compromised state. After a long day trying to get it reworked we identified the steering box as internally damaged with no good alternatives locally available. We will have to sit this one out unfortunately.
