Summer '17 Cross-Country Trip!

This summer we're embarking on our third cross-country trip with our SMB (in the five years since we bought it). But with a twist: good friends who live in Fresno, Calif., flew into Philadelphia this week and are driving our van one-way back to Fresno. In mid-June we'll fly one-way to Fresno and drive it back. They have always wanted to do an XC road trip, and it seemed like a win-win so we don't have to spend a week straight driving it out there.

So, keep an eye out for them in the next few weeks down through the Eastern Appalachians (Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smokies, etc.), Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and points west (I-10ish corridor), Zion, etc. Our van is kind of easy to spot with the big blue stripe on the side, bikes on the back, and PA tags.

We'll pick it up in Fresno, hopefully hit Yosemite and/or Sequoia for a few days, then 4-5 days in Carmel, Calif., visiting my sister-in-law. Then up to Oregon, where we'll probably drive the coast, visit Portland, see friends in Tacoma and visit Seattle and the Olympic peninsula. Up into Vancouver, over to Jasper and Banff, down to Waterton-Glacier parks, Yellowstone if we have time, then home to Philadelphia. We'll have five weeks for our part of the trip.

I'll update the thread once we start our trip in mid-June.

A hard thing: handing the keys of my SMB to my good friend and watching him and his wife drive off in my van, heading cross-country over the next three weeks! Looking forward to reuniting in Fresno in mid-June to start our trip.
