Re: Tour de Lost Coast Xmas/NY 2011-2012 itenerary
Cool. Thanks Rob. I made a copy. My wife and I probably will be driving down the coast of California in February. We're going to San Jose to visit her sister and welcome home our nephew from his two-year church mission. Then we're hoping to return to Las Vegas via a drive down the coast. That's if everything works out. I'm looking forward to reading your trip report. Drive carefully and have a Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year!

Rob, that's nice...some places I've never seen. But you're still missing a few. Man you don't want to miss this place:

And there are others as well as some great drives. I'll go back into the memory banks if I can then repost.

Re: Tour de Lost Coast Xmas/NY 2011-2012 itenerary
Folks
thanx for the PM's and stuff
Dave and all
this trip is to de-stress and hang w/ wife and cooper
if we find a cool spot or two, we may not make it very far north
we are only on road for 2 weels
HOWEVER, planning this trip has really opened my eyes
to what is avail up the coast
It merits a bombing run up to SF then
hit the coast and wander
vs
This trip, wanter up from LA
I would and have considered a bombing run
but I have never driven up the coast for for sure The Wife hasnt
So...... Guess this is more trips in the future!!!

There is no equivalent anywhere else to the incredible camping up and down that west coast.
What's with the "NY" part of the subject? You heading east?

Re: Tour de Lost Coast Xmas/NY 2011-2012 itenerary
Another not-to-be-missed spot near the north end of your trip is Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. I think it's probably the most remote piece of vehicle accessible coast line in CA.
At the north end of the Usal road just south of Whitethorn is an intersection called Four Corners @ 39.9731, -123.9663.
Turn left (tending SW) to the park @ 39.9428, -123.9645
Check it out on the web and Google Earth. You can't get anymore "out there" than this.

Looked it up on GoogleEarth. This is just the exact type of place I'm looking for. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I hope my wife and I can stop there on our coast trip. I'm just afraid that once we've camped there will never want to return to the desert in Nevada.
