Trip Suggestions Please ... possibly last ever :-(

Folks

Making a big Ask here

My rig is dialed in (Class C 19ft 2x4)
Full off grid capable, full solar etc

Sudden change in health quite possibly making this my last trip, ever.
I pushed off treatment till after July 4th to take a trip with my daughter

Enough of that Crap LOL

Looking for some place that has availability from San Diego to Santa Barbara
Only requirement is it not hot as heck
I would head to Alabama Hills or Anza but me thinks too hot

To top it off it is July 4th weekend

Not a fan of crowds, Decent campground that is not just dirt is ok

I am ok with off grid, no water or power, thats what i am set up for

And thank you in advance for those that comment on my health ;-)
I am gonna fight, but after 4 doctors they all sing the same song

Thanx again in advance

rob

PS
if you have a secret spot, PM me and i promise not to share

Sorry to hear about your health situation….
El Capitan is a nice big campground/state beach right on the coast.
One of our favorites that we found several years ago is Jalama Beach County Park, small remote campground outside Lompoc. There’s an on-site general store with some food options, right on the beach.

Given the range up to SB, I would personally pick Jalama as well. It is unlikely to be very hot. The water is much colder North of point Conception which Jalama is first camping available north.
I grew up in Lompoc in the 70,s and our across the street neighbors acquired the lease to the Jalama Store back then and it is still in the family.

If you wanted to drive another 100+ miles to get to San Simeon (toward Morro Bay on Hiway 1)that is also a beautiful area and will not be hot for same reasons. There is a campground on the hill that is more out of the morning soup. It will generally clear off at the beach by 11:00 .

This at the hilltop in the back of the park not down in the slew area at the bottom.

There is also camping just south of Morro Bay which is called Montana De Oro

These are my old stomping grounds but we were more guided by windsurfing than scenery but both have dramatic views just depending on how far you want to drive.

I would try and leave early to stake out a site. Once you get past Refugio / El Cap beaches there will be fewer people and more dramatic scenery.

Good luck with your weekend.

We've been hitting Caspers in Orange County. I've never been able to get a reservation but never had a problem showing up early and getting a cancelation. Seems like everything is snapped up online but there are always groups that back out at the last minute.

Dockwieler RV park recently opened a campervan-only set of spaces right on the beach that never seems to have more than a few vans at any given time. Last I checked they required a 3 night stay but it was awesome. Right on the bike path and had a fire pit to ourselves.
We went during the grunion run and it was a really great weekend.

Edit: Just checked and there are 5 spots open for 4th of July weekend.

Hey Rob, if you're coming up 395 to Bishop there are a couple nice remote spots to explore across from Mono lake not far off 120 that have well graded forest service roads. Take a look at the sawmill Meadows Rd. There are also some lesser used campgrounds with bathroom facilities if that is what you're after. It might be warm but I think some of the upper regions should be much cooler than the Alabama Hills. Also off 120/395 Junction, Dunderberg and Green creek (not the campground) has some really nice spots to boon dock off the creek. It might be busy but I usually can find a spot to snag. All of these areas are places I visit in September so hard to say how busy it will be in summer. Good Luck on your quest. Just make sure the forest service hasn't killed the boon docking as they have with so many areas over the past few years.

If you are going to Bishop, look into Chidago Canyon Petroglyphs and of course get some food at Erick Schat's Bakery. Theres some dispersed camping near the petroglyphs.
