Re: twogone trippin'
@everybody... Christine and I will be plugging in more "known" info on the opening post over the coming weekend. We have gotten all sorts of great and valuable input from members both on the thread and in pm's. Meetups will be happening here and there. We'll update the calendar and post the edited thread by Sunday evening (3-17) if all goes as planned. A special thanks to all for inputs!
We are humbled...
Marc

... had to move the update to this coming Sunday 3-24...
Jackson Hole trip is happening on exactly the same dates as our "mandatory" family reunion. We would definitely be there otherwise, but big thanks for the invite!

Re: twogone trippin' Edit 3-24
We are tightening up the plan... as of now, we are seeking input on:
A. good place(s) to go between Zion and Yosemite... we have two days of slack (6-7, 6-8)
B. good place(s) to go between Yosemite and Newbury Park/Thousand Oaks... two days (6-12, 6-13). Interested in Sequoia and DV about equally.
Thanks so much to all who have given inputs and contacted via pm! We are closing in on a solid plan, and have made many changes on y'alls wisdom

Re: twogone trippin' Edit 3-24
After Zion, you could go into Las Vegas and see the lights, catch a show, whatever. Or continue on to Death Vally. It can be hot in DV, but you can head up and out of the valley on 190 west and it will cool at higher elevations.
Assuming Tioga pass is open (usually it is open in June) you could spend a night at Benton Hot Springs (Hwy 120 off US6 just inside CA) and soak in a hot tub. Reservations suggested.

An easy shot into Yosemite from there.

Re: twogone trippin' Edit 3-24
If you like caves, Great Basin NP might do as a pit stop between Zion and Yosemite. GBNP is about 3-4 hrs away from Zion if you travel north rather than west towards DV. From GBNP it's an 8+ hr drive to the east edge of Yosemite. Taylor Cyn is a possible dispersed camping area with some spots having designated camps here and there. These spots are outside mono lake off 120. Of course there are a bunch of places along 395 such as Virginia Lakes and other places like that.
Death Valley will be one hot place in late May or June (probably around 100+) but there are some high altitude camps around Telescope Peak that would be cooler. My engine runs hot enough to avoid the desert at that time of year...JMO

Re: twogone trippin' Edit 7-15
We'll be leaving at dawn Monday. Wanted to say Thanks to all who helped with the plan, and Thanks to all the forum members that we will attempt to meetup with while out.
A special tip of the mug to "daveb" for his efforts on our behalf in the Yosemite leg... and the meetup we plan with him. We (and daveb) will also be meeting Suzann Wang for the first time. She is the widowed fiancee of now-deceased member/admin Jamie Lindsley (Ultrasport12). She'll be camping in their van with us at Yosemite.
This forum is a pretty special little "habit". Thanks to all!

Re: twogone trippin' Edit 3-24
Brother Pschitt, it appears that you have not perused the trip reports on my "home" thread on the forum...
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7022&hilit=+tgtbt
There will be a film of this trek... unlike any we've attempted so far. Christine now has three cameras where, until this trip, she just had a little ol' cheap FLIP video cam.
