for those looking to boondock or camp:
1. we visited lake davis two weekends ago during the "atmospheric river" rain event and the gate for lightning tree was still open. the usfs page says it's open year round for parking with no services during the winter (toilets, water, etc.)
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/plum...a/?recid=11186
2. this area is part of tahoe national forest, which allows "dispersed"
camping -

but not inside the "little truckee restricted use area" -
https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE...eprd511152.pdf
which means that you could find a spot nearby that is outside the restricted use area and comply with the usfs requirements.
this gps marker is adjacent to and outside the use area -

it's near a forest service road (dog valley road) and next to davies creek.
