Those are some really beautiful pictures, but do you ever miss seeing trees? It looks like they are a rarity in Iceland.

First of all, Happy New Year 2019 to all of you. Wish you happy trails and safe travels.

I continue VivaLaVida's journey in Iceland.

179. Small lake in the lava flow.

180. Hiking to a lava tunnel, we crossed a large lava flow.

181. In the tunnel entrance.

182. On our way back.

183. Myvatn Lake in the rain.

184. ...

185. Boondocking in the plain.

186. Sunset...

187. Volcano.

188. The next day, after long marshes crossing allong an abandonned trail, VivaLaVida arrives at this powerfull river.

189. I finally didn't attempted the ford as I couldn't see any trail on the other side.

190. We thus made a detour to reach this wonderfull waterfall...

191. ... falling in a canyon of basalt organ.

192. Another point of you.

193. About two miles upstream, another side waterfall.

194. And the main one at dusk.

To be followed...

pictures #190 through 192 could be Idaho if you didn't know any better. so crazy how far away from here you are and yet we see some of the exact identical looking scenery. really cool to see how different it is where your at yet still be able to see stuff that could be my backyard.

also just watched a show called outside with host greg aiello. he did a trip to Iceland and he showed a bunch of stuff to do there and it was interesting to hear about some of the same stuff you've been sharing with us. really appreciate all these great pix and trip report claude!!

Hey Shenrie,

You're right, some places look like Idaho sometimes even if there is usually much more trees in Idaho. In Iceland, trees are pretty rare, excepted in some Eastern valleys and in town.

VivaLaVida goes visiting other Nort-East waterfalls

195. Powerfull river.

196. Godafoss, very touristic as ist right next to the Nb 1 Ring Road.

197. The big Dettifoss, the most powerfull waterfall in Europe.

198. Half a mile upstream, Selfoss, on the same river.

199. VivaLaVida looks small in Asbirgi Canyon.

200. Nice bay North of Usavik village.

201. Usavik harbor, a wellknown place for wale watching.

202. We went back to the bay for a nice afternoon and boondocking.

203. Time for Emile to play on the beach.

204. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset there.

205. The sun setting in the ocean.

206. Colorfull and peacefull evening...

Still more to come later...

It's nice that you can do this kind of trip while you are still young. As the humor writer Patrick McManus wrote, the trails have gotten harder and steeper since I was young.
The pictures of Iceland continue to be beautiful. Is my envy showing?
