I headed out of Green Bay, spent the night on the Mississippi River, and then headed SW on the TAT as mentioned earlier. The TAT, while scenic, was slow going and temperatures were rising, so I decided to get off the TAT for a while to make some time.
Temp was 89 degrees and humidity was high. Uncomfortable enough for "me" to need A/C unless one happened to find shade, which at the time was not available. So I know I would need to get across SD, at least about 1/2 - 2/3rds (east-west distance), to get to the western part of the US that is less humid/low humidity, and that was hundreds of miles west.
I stopped to do some weather checking, not to mention "Burning up in the Midwest":

It was/is going to be mid to upper 90s and 100s in the areas I wanted to go. I know I could get west and find elevation for cooler temps.
Well, I wimped out by letting the heat and humidity get to me so I turned around and headed back to the UP. I did mention this trip would be a week or 6. My driving ankle has been bothering me too.
Just too hot/humid for me to enjoy traveling. As I mostly boondock, it is too hard having to run a generator to power the A/C and I would need to find campgrounds to plug in to run A/C. Not the way I like to travel. So, next time I will depart in the Fall or Spring. Add in crowds, I like traveling during the school year better.
