West of LV, East of LA
We took a little camping trip this last 3 day weekend into the Mojave Desert.
Had a great campsite
The campsite also had central heating
We took a couple of bike rides, it was chilly but nice temps for the dogs
It was a nice trip, but we did hit rush hour in Oatman on the way home

Re: West of LV, East of LA
It was nice to be able to target shoot* and hunt in an area administered by the National Park Service, I would like to return to hunt deer and quail.
*It appears I was in error of the current policy, It is not legal to target shoot. I thought the hunting only clause referred to Wilderness Areas inside the Preserve, it looks like it is now the whole Preserve. There are other areas like the Grand Canyon-Parashant and Vermilion Cliffs administered by the DoI that do allow recreational shooting and hunting.
There were lots of old mines to check out.
We only saw 2 other vehicles the entire time in the Preserve, one other tourist and a NPS ranger.
I have a couple of movies for YouTube, but cant remember my password to upload.

While it is sadly still legal to hunt, it is disgusting to hear that. You also need to read this about plinking:

Re: West of LV, East of LA
What were you shooting? I hope it was just a sling shot. Otherwise, shooting any firearm toward rocks could be a bad idea with the chance of ricocheting bullets. And, of course, I hope you picked up all of your brass. After all, it is a "preserve" you were shooting in.

Brass? That's not the worst problem. The lead is. It poisons the ground, groundwater, fauna and flora.

Opinions differ greatly on hunting. As for the "poisonous bullets" not all bullets are made with lead projectiles. Did you ask jstanley what kind of ammo he was using? From the looks of the targets it could very well be nothing more than a BB gun.
Not everyone who owns guns and shoots is the typical redneck jerk causing all the problems that we see all to often while out in the woods.
Be nice and give folks some credit and respect on how they enjoy their hobbies.
My apoligies to everyone on the forum, I don't want this to turn into a "gun" thread.
jstanley please post more of your trip, it looks like you had a wonderful time.

Re: West of LV, East of LA
I bet there would be some awesome Quail hunting in the area - let us know if you get a chance to return next fall and do some hunting. Are the dogs trained hunters?

No problem, Tracey.
Opinions differ greatly on hunting.
They sure do!
As for the "poisonous bullets" not all bullets are made with lead projectiles.
That's correct, but most are.
Did you ask jstanley what kind of ammo he was using? From the looks of the targets it could very well be nothing more than a BB gun.
Could be. He didn't say.
Not everyone who owns guns and shoots is the typical redneck jerk causing all the problems that we see all to often while out in the woods.
I wonder why you would bring that up? No one said that.
Be nice and give folks some credit and respect on how they enjoy there hobbys.
I was being nice. Sorry, there's no 'credit' (?) or respect for activities I strongly oppose.
My appoligies to everyone on the forum, I don't want this to turn into a "gun" thread.
No need to apologize. We're all friends here.
