Nice report. I did that in my '07 SMB 4x4 about ten years ago. It was an epic journey.

Lance,

We got our camping permits at 12:01 am, four months ahead of the date. By 12:02 am, most of the sites were taken.

For multi day trips, you need to do that for each night you need a campgrounds. When you reserve day one, I added a comment that this was day 1 of a 3 day trip. The next two days, a similar comment (2 of 3, 3 of 3, etc). The park service will join the multiple reservations into a single reservation, and a single fee.

You have to confirm the reservation between 7 and 14 days before the trip date. If you don’t confirm, they will cancel your reservation and open the campsite. So at times you can get a site up to one week in advance, but it is a gamble.

FANTASTIC TRIP REPORT!! The attention to just enough details, awesome pics, and mood (pucker factor lol) helps other members to say "OK I can do that!" or "Mark it on our future trips." and utilize their SMB to its fullest capabilities...THANKS!!!!!!!!

Love to see it not in snow. We did it in a snow storm a few years ago and it was interesting

Great share and great pics!! We did it a couple years ago as well. Fantastic trip. We aired down to 30-35 and the van rode pretty good. Would definitely recommend the trip to anyone that hasn’t done it yet. One of our favorites

Trip reports are always enjoyable to review - well done! Maybe it's the caution influenced by my age, but just looking at some of your Pic's I too would harbor concern on some of the narrow trails, all the while hoping not to square-off with another traveling the opposite direction.
Great Pic's !

Thanks for posting the report! Nice to ride a long with you guys!
What is the procedure when 2 vehicles come together in the middle of one of those roads? Not many places to move aside it seems.

I have always assumed the rule of the road is the downhill vehicle has the right of way. It’s too difficult to back up a hill.
