Yosemite and the Merced River Canyon

We spent the last couple of days at Yosemite...the weather was fine but cold with fresh snow from last weekend:

We saw two other SMBs...here is the mandatory SMB photo and El Capitan:

We drove out via Highway 140 along the Merced River and the poppies were more spectacular than we have ever seen:

Tracks for the Yosemite Valley Railroad that I model and research were behind the digger pines on the far side of the river right at the base of the hillside...can you image riding the rear deck of a wood observation car 75 years ago with a wildflower display like this!

Re: Yosemite and the Merced River Canyon

Jack did you see if they opened the BLM camps/road at Briceburg? It's been closed do to slides and I've been hopeing it would open. I'm going to be up in that area this weekend.
Dave.

I have the e-mail address of the BLM ranger at Briceburg and just sent him an e-mail...I'll let you know what he says.

No, the road and campgrounds are still closed although they are working on them.

Re: Yosemite and the Merced River Canyon

Thanks, I called last week and saw it was closed but had a report it was open by a guy that fishes the area. He must be talking about further up. Guess I'll go to the 120 area.
