Replacing Drive Shaft

My mechanic found stress cracks in my drive shaft on my 2008 6.0 with 130,000 miles on it. Anybody else had this problem?

I had a driveshaft u-joint fail on my SMB driveshaft before, but no issues beyond that.

Did you have to replace the driveshaft?

No, just a u-joint replacement, and a driveshaft rebalancing to be safe.

As BroncoHauler, I had the rear u-joint fail - replaced them and also sent drive shafts out to be reconditioned & balanced as a precaution. Not an inexpensive gig, and sometimes costs can almost be equivalent to a replacement (Mine had no issues, but the venture hit the pocket book for close to $1,500).
You certainly don't want to tempt fate since a shaft that breaks while moving can do a lot of damage under the vehicle.

I assume these are all Aluminum drive shafts that are stressing?

You usually don't need to rebalance when a U-joint is replaced.

Where were the cracks located? Aluminum or steel?

Check out Tom woods driveshafts for a replacement. They can build you a custom shaft. Reasonable price and quick shipping. I have them on my rig. I haven’t had them long enough to give a product review but they look and feel great.
