4" Turbo back Exhaust installed on a 7.3L

Hey guys, long time no post.

I recently installed a 4" turbo back exhaust on my van and thought I'd share. Bought it from TVDiesel.com It was made by Diamond Eye Performance. I made a video which is up on youtube now. Click here to watch.

They make one for vans? Or does a truck version fit?

This kit is made for the van. I couldn't believe I actually found one.

Didn't see anything Dave but it would be worth giving them a call.

Re: 4" Turbo back Exhaust installed on a 7.3L

Thanks Tom. Worth looking into. It's something I've been wanting to do for some time. I would like to see better power off the line and was hopeing the exhaust mod might help. Maybe even get lower EGT's???

Dave.

I'm sure it would lower EGT's, I read about guys saying that often. More power, yep it does that too. To what extent I'm not sure. Probably sounds like a lot more power than is delivered.

Any welding the pipe together or welding new support brackets to the frame? Anyone installed an aftermarket air intake, like CAT? Has anyone done anything custom? Getting the engine to breathe as you have is a worthy modification. Thank you for the post.

No welding required. The kit uses all of the stock hangars.

Others have done intakes. I'll leave it to them to answer that one.

Re: 4" Turbo back Exhaust installed on a 7.3L

Found another down side to the new exhaust system. My transmission temps are as high as I've ever seen them on a long hot climb. I'm guessing the new exhaust comes much closer to the transmission and cooling lines so it's heating everything up. In fact the new exhaust is within a 1/4 inch of the transmission now. I'm going to wrap the exhaust from the turbo back and see if that helps.

Yes, it's still worth it. I'm sure I've gained one mpg, and maybe even two. Best part is much less downshifting on the smaller grades. My van used to downshift all the time. Mostly due to my gearing 3.73 with 33" tires makes for around 1600 to 1700 rpm at 60mph. Too low for the van to pull the hills. Now you hear the turbo spool up, sometimes see a little black smoke, and the van just motors up.
