Aluminess/winch install Q

Is it possible to put the winch (e.g. Warn M12000) on after you already put an Aluminess front bumper on?

Or is it easier to install the winch onto the bumper first, and then put the (heavier) complete assembly onto the van?

(I'm going to use a engine crane/cherry picker to lift the bumpers on and off, with suitable padding etc.)

Putting aside the solenoid issue, was it difficult to manhandle the winch into the box?

I used an engine crane. The winch weighed 140lbs or so.

Oh snap, I see the Warn weighs about the same. I was planning to remove it before I pull the old bumper off. I guess I'll look at the winch box in the bumper and see how much room I have, but it is basically going in from above, so maybe will work out ok to install after.

Also didn't realize that the Aluminess winch box is closed at the rear side, unlike the Road Armor, so there is no advantage to pre-mounting the winch before installing the bumper.
