The middle bracket looks bent inwards (towards the penthouse). The vertical face should be more plumb. As is, the penthouse does not look like it would clear when coming down.
If the clamping surfaces all look proper against the van and in the gutter, then remove the middle bracket and carefully bend the vertical face outward so it is more in vertical alignment w the front and rear brackets. Once it is close, hang your awning on the
How much bending was done to the front bracket?

It's a Thule awning - identical for all practical purposes. Designed by the same people.
I bent both the front and back brackets forward so they are vertical. If I make the same bend (so it's vertical) on the middle bracket it will not be in line with the front and back brackets due to the bowed sides of the van. The rain gutter on the van is not a straight line so the brackets do not line up.
This video shows the problem:

The board in the picture is flush against the front and rear brackets but the middle bracket, if it were bent to be vertical, would be offset by about 1".
I added a couple more pictures:

FYI - it's a 2011 E150
Thanks for the help.
