Can I use space in front of stove for small drawer

Our flush mount countertop stove has a cavity under the counter where its base reside. There's a gap of several inches in front of it in my SMB -- and probably everyone else's. I'm wondering about putting a hinge on the front panel that covers the stove's hole, adding a barrier between the panel and the stove and using that space for cooking utensils like stirring spoons, etc. Does anyone know if this is a bad idea? Heat, ventilation, other issues?

Re: Can I use space in front of stove for small drawer

I have a(n original SMB) drawer there too. The way it works is that the drawer front is full height, so that it looks like a normal drawer, but then the drawer "box" (molded plastic, same as the other drawers in the van) has been cut down in height in back to slide under the stove box. So the drawer remains full-depth (from front to rear of counter) but is really only half usable in height (from bottom of drawer to top of drawer).

So in other words, it's just a normal SMB drawer like the other ones, but the pre-fabbed plastic tray part of the drawer has been cut (by SMB) as needed to make it fit under the part of the stove that hangs down below the countertop.

I have fitted some low cutlery divider trays (found one that fit perfectly, then modded some others to fit in the rest of the space) and it's really the most used/handy storage place in my van. I use it for cutlery plus "junk drawer stuff" I need to get to a lot. Highly recommended.

Took me an extra day, 'cause I got busy, but here they are (I guess only three per post, so I'll make this two posts):

Note that the black plastic (also cut) is part of a cutlery divider I added; the brown plastic is the original drawer body (cut by SMB)

Viva,

Thanks for the pics. Missed them while out of town recently. They'll be a great help.
